Protection - Always wear eye, ear, respiratory, and skin protection whenever necessary. You could get seriously injured or killed if you don’t.
Area Safety - Make sure that your work area is safe. The car should be on level ground, there should be no open flame, etc.
Correct Tools - Make sure that you are using the correct tool for the job and know how to use that tool correctly. If you don’t you could get seriously hurt or killed. omods should not be assumed as an accurate source to choose if a specific tool is the correct one, there may be information on the site that tells you what tool we have found to be correct for a certain job but there are circumstances that may make the tool incorrect.
Personal Limits - Know your limitations as a mechanic and if you are not comfortable with something post your problem up in the forums to see if someone has information to help you or take your car to a professional mechanic. Use the approximate time required in omods’ guides to get an idea how long it should take a mechanic to do the job. The average rate for a professional mechanic is anywhere from $70.00 to $90.00 an hour.
Seek Advice - If you are unsure of anything seek advice. The omods forums are a great place for you to post questions up. Moderators and other members on the site are dedicated to help you.
Give Advice - Help others by sharing the knowledge that you have by posting things in the omods forums or car infopedia wiki .
Responsibility - Whenever working on cars you need to be responsible. Doing anything that impairs you will have an affect on your judgement and performance as a mechanic.
Be Environmental Friendly - It can be harmful to yourself and to the environment if you do not dispose of fluids and waste correctly. You can take fluids to local auto parts stores or an auto shop that can accommodate your disposal.
Take your time - You need to be patient when working on your car. When under time constraints, wait until you have plenty of time to complete a job. omods guides have approximate times that are update and averaged to how long it has taken others. If you are unsure about the approximate time, ask in our forums.
